The Flu & Other Viruses

Nothing but articles on here lately and that’s not so good, but then again, I’ve got a nasty flu, working on laryngitis – and I went from 1 computer to zero to, like, half one.  See, sis went visiting her bf and took hers, so all we had was my mom’s, the next day, I could not log on because the keyboard and mouse will not work.  So we rented one from rentacenter and it is rather of the crappy, so it’s the half of which I spoke.

I had more to say…not sure I have the energy. Lack of oxygen will do that, you know…also not sure I remember?  I know that when I fix the computer (and I will), I intend to post a tutorial, either here or on AC because I find lots of questions on the internet of other people with similar probs, but very few answers – mostly repeats of other answers that ppl have already said don’t. work.  So…

Right before I got sick I wrote about 12 articles in about 3 days.  I think I wrote about the targetted calls that I got?  Not sure.  Felt a little less pro-AC since then because I never did get those last 2, they never answered my messages and I’ve never been featured on the front page, but every FP article I clicked the other day was ABSOLUTE SHIT.  One of them was no longer even relevent and they had it up there DAYS after the info in it had basically expired.  Ridiculous.

I HAVE been writing poetry, though!  For the first time in forever. Yay! Go me.

Ok, that’s it for now, more when I can breathe again.

The Question is – Will my motivation match my excitement?!

Today, I got an article written, which was already great, as that means I’ve already done several this week and it’s only Tuesday.  After I posted it, I went back to my email and saw that I had new mail from AC.  I was targetted for a Set of 10 calls, each one for several dollars upfront pay!!  I assume others were also, but it still means I am getting noticed!  I was chosen!  Woohoo!!

The only negative so far is that as of this writing only 8 of the calls have actually shown up.  However, since I am already a little paranoid scared that I might not be able to get them all done, maybe that isn’t so bad.  They are all on the same subject, which generally makes it easier for me, but I’m a worrier sometimes.

I’m still excited!  I don’t have to scrounge for calls for at least a week!  Maybe, if I do well, I will finally get those partner calls they told me about back in October!

Also?  Very.  Tired.

One last thing before I go, though.  An update of sorts from the ranting drama of yesterday’s entry.  Blue came to look at the picture and now agrees with me.  I’ve heard nothing further from ATC girl.  Hopefully, I won’t.

Peace and love, kiddies.  Lord knows I could use some…

Swap Drama (AKA If a picture’s worth a thousand words, then why’m I writing now?)

Ha.  Well, I didn’t have time to add text earlier when I posted those pictures, so now that I do, I thought I’d just rattle off a few things.  The first three pictures are of my contributions to the toadstool stuffie swap and the knit/crochet swap (beret).  I used Lion Brand Landscapes felting wool blend and I must say I loved it.  The one drawback was that the dark blue dye bled a little when I tried drying it by means other than air or dryer.  It did not seem to do so in the washer or at any other time, but the heat seemed to do something strange and make it bleed.  It didn’t affect the other colors or stain anything, so no big deal.

The last picture, the one of the Owl ATC, is a scan of an ATC I mentioned a few entries back.  I sent the sender a two sentence private message listing all the reasons (see entry link above) I was giving her a 3, then gave her a 3 rating, commenting publicly only that I had sent her a message…and then the drama ensued.

She wrote back and said she knew she was late, but asked if I could tell her “how I used someone else’s work” because she had made the card herself.  I wrote her again and briefly explained how I knew it was someone else’s work, whose work it was (we’ll call her Blue),  and how I knew it came from the envelope (again, see previous entry for details) .

She wrote a longer message this time, stating “There’s nothing in the swap description that says the owl has to be hand stamped by the person making the card”.  I mean, come on.  There’s nothing in the driver’s manual that says you shouldn’t steal other people’s license plates, but you still shouldn’t.  Since when are ethics dictated by swap requirements?  If you are using someone else’s work Give. Them. Credit.  And of course, no explanation for why she allegedly didn’t know what I was talking about when I said it was someone else’s work.  She went right from “how did I use someone else work?” to “this is why I used someone else’s work” with no admission of the contradiction or reason why she did not feel a necessity to give credit.  Then she mentions something about having seen swaps specifically about trading stamped images (as if that has anything to do with the price of Alex Trebek’s hair gel) and proceeds to tell me “This is just really blown out of porportion.”  As though I and not she were continuing discourse on what should have been a closed matter.  I opted not to respond.

Next, I get a message from Blue.  That’s right, she enlisted the person whose work she stole to fight on her behalf.  I don’t know what sob story she told Blue about what a big meanie I am, but, then, I probably don’t care.  Whatever it was, it must have been a great spin because she had Blue on her side.  I don’t mean Blue was rude to me or anything of the sort.  I just mean, Blue sent a message really championing this girl and nicely trying to convince me to give her a 5.  I can see where Blue was coming from, she was not privy to all the info, plus not only did someone like her work enough to steal it, I recognized it right away when I saw it and I am sure that was a really nice feeling.  NIce enough, perhaps, to overlook not getting credit, especially if the story is spun correctly.

Well, naturally, I had to disabuse Blue of the notion that the uncredited use of her work was the only reason for the 3 rating.  I also reminded her that I was not an unreasonable person, referring her back to when she herself had written to let me know she might be late with a swap.  My response was very much “No big deal!  Thanks for letting me know!” and other chipper exclamatory statements.  I must have done a fairly good job of convincing her that all was not the sunshine and roses picture painted by ATC girl because she asked for a picture, expressing doubt over the veracity of other statements made by the girl, which is why I posted a picture.  I hope I did not come across as being rude to Blue.  All my vitriol was intended elsewhere, but there was a lot of it and some might have appeared to spill over.  If so, I heartily apologize to Blue.  It was unintentional.

Actually, you know, I can pretty much guess a lot of what ATC girl told Blue, am pretty sure, in fact, it went a lot like this: “I loved the owl stamp, cut it off, and used it on the card… That was only one element of the card anyway… ”  I suppose, technically, that last statement is true, but I think if you look at the photo you will have to agree that the owl is most definitely the focal pointof the ATC.  As for the first statement, I think that pretty much answered her ownquestion of “how did I use someone else’s work?”, didn’t it?

I concluded the exchange with a final message to ATC girl, stating that she had helped me decide to stop participating in swaps, that the exchange of messages had reinforced that decision, and that, since she knew full well why she was getting the 3, she should have accepted it gracefully and moved on.  I mean, if someone tells you, you are getting a 3 because you did do A, you did do B and you did not do C, the decision on whether to appeal the rating should be simple.  Did you do A & do B and not do C?  If your answers are yes, yes, and no, take the rating.  Don’t admit to A, pretend you don’t know what B is, and ignore C like it doesn’t matter to try to get something more than you’ve earned.

Now, I am happy to have this all off my chest and am all done ranting, except to say this: If you steal other people’s work I will call you out on it.  If you steal my work I might cause you bodily harm with office supplies (nothing worse than a papercut, baby!).  If you want to quote me, tell me and give me credit.  Simple as that.

(Also note, if I have had a beer, I will write for a loooong time…)

Winter Weather Hits Tennessee

Here in middle Tennessee, it isn’t rare to have snow flurries in the forecast and never see the first flake.

I Have Been Remiss

At least when it comes to updating this blog.

Obviously, if you scroll down through my most recent entries here, you can see I’ve been writing a lot – including an article for one of Time Magazine’s Top 25 Blogs!!  That’s right, yours truly is now writing for Got2BeGreen.com!  I’m one of about 100 new people they are trying to get on board, but I’m excited to be a part of it.

It’s totally different from my AC work, for several reasons besides the environmental focus.  Everything I write is totally up to me.  They review it for spelling, etc, but length and content (as long as its environmental) is my choice.  I should be posting about 1 article a week for them, if I can manage it.

That will mean even less time for this, I’m afraid.  I’ve still got things I need to put up on Etsy, too…

I have not gone back to Texas.  I don’t discuss that part of my life here, but I will say, things are a little frustrating right now and I don’t know what my schedule is going to be like or when/if I might be moving.

As for Swap-Bot, I have sent my last remaining outstanding swaps out and I still haven’t decided if I will do anymore or not (aside from the private ones – I haven’t forgotten you).  I’m leaning toward “I have enough to do without that added stress”, but I don’t know.  Time will tell.

I have been cooking a lot also, making bread and cookies and donuts all in one evening as well as several rice dishes and various other carb-centric recipes.

I know there was more I wanted to say besides that I’ve been playing “old skool” video games on a super nintendo, but I guess I’ll end with that.

Naked Mail & ATCs Done Right

I’ve been spreading myself a bit thin lately and it’s been too hectic to write here or get much people contact.

I still intend to do private swaps with some of you, I’ve just been crazy busy this week and kinda bummed about some things.

Yesterday I got my naked mail swap which was a faux silver tray sent to sans packaging (hence “naked”) from a town called Sterling.  My mailman loved it and so did I.  Sticker even matched my kitty!

Today, I got 2 ATCs that should seriously be used in a tutorial on “How to Properly Make Use of Stickers in ATC Work”.  They’re Dr. Seuss and 3D and, well, they just ROCK.  Even though they were heavy on the sticker usage, she managed to make them ART, not in small part owing to the fact that she was so clearly inspired by the subject.  Her note even rhymed, bitches – Seussian style

I busted butt yesterday getting 2 articles turned in, then managed to miss another 10AM deadline.  I don’t know how I missed a big bold sentence in the middle of the call, but it would seem I did.  Once again, though, if they had just made the deadline 12am on 2/12 instead of 10 hours later, I would have made it on time.  This one paid more, too, so I was pretty ticked at myself for missing it.  I didn’t have time to finish it yesterday.   I try to get them done early whenever I can, but since I’m sharing a computer at the moment, it just isn’t always possible, so sometimes it’s down to the wire.  Of course, truth be told, that might be when I do some of my best work…

Not a lot else going on in crafting, writing news…Made some sugared pecans tonight which were scrumptious.  Almost out of suet cakes for the birds…

…which reminds me that the article in the previous post is having tech difficulties.  No idea what’s up.  When they notified me this morning that it’d been published it was working just fine.  When my mom came home at 4 it was no longer working.

Tomorrow is another busy day, so I better get to sleep.
