Just Call Me Lady Lemon Marmalade

Ugh, the major drawback of having wordpress autopost my articles (and having a bunch of things publish at once) is that I have to go back and batch edit all the tags and categories.  At least this time most of them had similar tags.

I’ve been busy still, writing and cooking.  Lots of cooking.  I’ve made sour dough bread, two kinds of marmalade with a third jelly to come and I will be making cheese in a day ot two, as well.  The sour dough bread is my first successful attempt, but only halfway, as it did not rise appropriately.  I think it just wasn’t warm enough in the room.  Correction – it rose the first time, but the second rise never happened.  Or, if it did, it never reached double bulk.  Gah, I wann live on a farm with a huge, warm kitchen and baby goats and sheep andandand…things.

Finally think I’m over the flu, so maybe I can get these things finished.

I also did something which I think is a positive solution to the negative swap problem.  By accident I found that someone was totally flaked on by the person who made sent that owl.  She was also flaked on by a person who is due to send me something, but has written to say she’ll be late.  So I volunteered to angel for her.  I’ve started on it and I am excited to see if it turns out the way I think it will.  It was a Michelle Obama swap and I had this idea that requires lots of ATCs to finish, but I think the end product will be worth it.  Hope she likes it.  Speaking of which, I should probably get to work on it.

Halo I haven’t forgotten our swap.  I should set it up before I start work on the other one, yes, I should.  I will, in fact.  May or June, you said?  Well, it’s not like we need to be hardcore about the deadline since it’s private, and I’m sure I can edit afterward, anyway…And yes, I should probably send you a private note or something, but I am multi-tasking, and anyway, I am helping you get readers…er, maybe…that only works, if I have readers, huh? lol

so busy…what did i do?

Wrote a lot today, but still not enough.  Couldn’t really get my head in the right place, except for the green article I wrote, which hasn’t been published on Got2BeGreen quite yet.  I did find this through an article from there, though. Pretty cool, no?

I had an great idea today for a product, trying to decide whether to make & market or just post a tutorial somewhere.

Learned that for the suet cakes, I can also use onion bags instead of wire feeders – not only easier, but easier for some birds to perch on.

Baked 3 kinds of bread today and fed the sour dough starter I started last night.  Bread was GOOOOOD, though the sweet one still needs…something.  More icing, maybe.

Took my little baby herbs out into the sun for some photosynthetic tanning and they seemed to enjoy that immensely.  I wish the remainder would go ahead and sprout already!  It’s been a week and about 55-60 of the 72 little peat pellets have tiny plant shoots.  In some cases, I am sure it must be the plant because none have sprouted yet.  In other cases, we’ve got a 3 out of 5 situation and things like that.

My goodness, I am tired.  Lots to do tomorrow.  2  articles due and I need to try and get another one in early.  At least one is nearly done and another somewhat started.

[EDIT: Wrote this yesterday! and apparently hit draft instead of publish – DER! But I have an excuse – it’s how I have to do it for the green blog!]

I Have Been Remiss

At least when it comes to updating this blog.

Obviously, if you scroll down through my most recent entries here, you can see I’ve been writing a lot – including an article for one of Time Magazine’s Top 25 Blogs!!  That’s right, yours truly is now writing for Got2BeGreen.com!  I’m one of about 100 new people they are trying to get on board, but I’m excited to be a part of it.

It’s totally different from my AC work, for several reasons besides the environmental focus.  Everything I write is totally up to me.  They review it for spelling, etc, but length and content (as long as its environmental) is my choice.  I should be posting about 1 article a week for them, if I can manage it.

That will mean even less time for this, I’m afraid.  I’ve still got things I need to put up on Etsy, too…

I have not gone back to Texas.  I don’t discuss that part of my life here, but I will say, things are a little frustrating right now and I don’t know what my schedule is going to be like or when/if I might be moving.

As for Swap-Bot, I have sent my last remaining outstanding swaps out and I still haven’t decided if I will do anymore or not (aside from the private ones – I haven’t forgotten you).  I’m leaning toward “I have enough to do without that added stress”, but I don’t know.  Time will tell.

I have been cooking a lot also, making bread and cookies and donuts all in one evening as well as several rice dishes and various other carb-centric recipes.

I know there was more I wanted to say besides that I’ve been playing “old skool” video games on a super nintendo, but I guess I’ll end with that.

Naked Mail & ATCs Done Right

I’ve been spreading myself a bit thin lately and it’s been too hectic to write here or get much people contact.

I still intend to do private swaps with some of you, I’ve just been crazy busy this week and kinda bummed about some things.

Yesterday I got my naked mail swap which was a faux silver tray sent to sans packaging (hence “naked”) from a town called Sterling.  My mailman loved it and so did I.  Sticker even matched my kitty!

Today, I got 2 ATCs that should seriously be used in a tutorial on “How to Properly Make Use of Stickers in ATC Work”.  They’re Dr. Seuss and 3D and, well, they just ROCK.  Even though they were heavy on the sticker usage, she managed to make them ART, not in small part owing to the fact that she was so clearly inspired by the subject.  Her note even rhymed, bitches – Seussian style

I busted butt yesterday getting 2 articles turned in, then managed to miss another 10AM deadline.  I don’t know how I missed a big bold sentence in the middle of the call, but it would seem I did.  Once again, though, if they had just made the deadline 12am on 2/12 instead of 10 hours later, I would have made it on time.  This one paid more, too, so I was pretty ticked at myself for missing it.  I didn’t have time to finish it yesterday.   I try to get them done early whenever I can, but since I’m sharing a computer at the moment, it just isn’t always possible, so sometimes it’s down to the wire.  Of course, truth be told, that might be when I do some of my best work…

Not a lot else going on in crafting, writing news…Made some sugared pecans tonight which were scrumptious.  Almost out of suet cakes for the birds…

…which reminds me that the article in the previous post is having tech difficulties.  No idea what’s up.  When they notified me this morning that it’d been published it was working just fine.  When my mom came home at 4 it was no longer working.

Tomorrow is another busy day, so I better get to sleep.

Writing and Cooking and…other stuffses

This has been published for several days, but I don’t remember getting the notice.  As hectic as today was, maybe it’s just slipped my mind, though.

Wrote 2 more articles today for calls, which means 5 waiting for approval.  Also checked on the $10 bonus for December and it’s a good thing because they hadn’t planned on giving it to me, but the woman I contacted said she was overriding it, as she felt I’d earned it.  So I should have that later this week – w00t!

WooleyDuckling has a stomach ailment (whether food poisoning or virus, we do not know), and has been in bed all day.  It’s really knocked her out and she didn’t make it to class.  Just as well she was scheduled off work, too.  Hopefully, she’ll be better by tomorrow as she was in bad shape today.

I worked a little on one of my crochet swaps – and repaired the mushroom which the cats decided was a chew toy!! – last night and will probably do so again shortly.  Mom finally broke down and bought a dryer, so I may wait till it’s all set up before finishing, since this yarn calls for drying to complete the felting process.  Got another disappointing ATC in the mail.  I may not continue with Swap-bot after I finish these current swaps and the private one in the works.  What’s really disconcerting is that from what is written on the back, I am assuming that my ATC is one of two identical ATC’s that she created for this swap – and the other person gives her a glowing review talking about the level of detail and the “astonishing” lettering…wha..?? Are you serious?  I mean, there was nothing on this card but stickers.  The lettering comment – I would seriously assume the rater was being ironic if she hadn’t given this girl a heart to go with those comments.  Level of detail?!?!  She either used preprinted stickers or she cut and pasted a printout for the picture portion (and not in a collage-type way) – where’s the detail in that?!  And the lettering? was all letter-shaped stickers.  Astonishing?!  Yes, the ability to stick stickers onto cardstock is simply amazing, your mother must be so proud.

I really don’t know if people will think I am being too harsh about this.  I haven’t worked out whether I care, either.  I am just so damned tired of mediocrity being shoved down my throat because no one cares enough to do better.  My country seems to thrive on it.  And I’m sick to death of it.  Great restaurants can’t stay open, while TGIAverage thrives.  Movies and television shows with merit and worth and substance (see: Sports Night aka the greatest show EVER) get lost and tossed while steaming piles of excrement like…well, there is a virtual flood of recent blockbuster movie titles running through my head, pick one…and Deal or No Brains? saturate the market.  And yes, it is partially personal.  Because my novels lie dusty in the drawer while tedious garbage gets published.

And, sure, it’s just a piece of paper with some stickers and I shouldn’t be getting angry, probably, but, in the immortal words of Disney’s Ariel –

“Thingsmabobs?  I got 20!  But who cares?  [They’re] No big deal.  I want mooorrrrrrrrrrrre!!!”

I’ve already explained in a previous post what kind of thing I was hoping to get out of this, so I won’t go into it again.  I’m just really disenchanted with the whole thing and I don’t think I want to continue something that’s supposed to be fun and just stresses me out.  I don’t need it.  I have a husband for that sort of thing.

Anyway, I dind’t mean to get off on yet another ranting tangent.  So I will end on a higher note and talk about the fantabulous cake I made tonight.  I was craving really special food, since I couldn’t sleep last night and ended up watching the food network like a crazy person (coz it just makes me hungry).  And I don’t even know why it popped into my head, but suddenly after I had already made some KICKASS stirfry for dinner, I decided we needed a kickass dessert to go with it.  So I concocted a cake with nuts and a cream cheese icing.  I will need to doctor the recipe a bit, because the top was kind of chewy in spots for some reason, which requires adjustment, but everything except those few spots was delicious.  Speaking of that cake, I think it’s calling me…
